I was blessed to participate in a sweat lodge ceremony yesterday with close friends. The cool earth was covered with fresh cedar boughs. The steaming hot rocks in the centre brought the sun’s energy into the dark room. We started with a round of prayers to our ancestors – to our mothers and fathers and grandparents, thanking them for their gifts.  We moved to a round of prayers for the generations following us, wishing they too can know the beauty of deep friendship and community.  And we ended with a round of prayers for ourselves….

may we let go
may we embrace our aging
may we open our hearts
may we take in the hot fire energy into our hearts
may we support each other to take care of ourselves
may we trust life

Sharing food together afterwards always brings a special nourishment and I went home feeling full of love and falling deliciously exhausted into bed
