Of course, it is valuable to eat healthy food. But often the focus on nutrients and numbers, calories and carbohydrates goes so far away from the pleasure of food.

It is so important to include pleasure in our life. Pleasure heals.  Even when we are suffering with illness or emotional pain, it is important to look for and include something pleasurable each day.  Food can do this.

There is nothing wrong with eating food for pleasure.  Some nutrition books suggest we should only eat like a machine – counting calories and only eating at certain preset times.  But we are human beings and food itself, food memories, food stories, aesthetics of food, the physicality of food preparation, the engagement of cooking and pleasure of sharing and eating are important parts of nourishment.

Anxiety about food is not good for us.  If we could get more in tune with our body, our desires, our pleasures and our food – it will all find its place.

One way to do that is to bring more eroticism, more pleasure, more aesthetics to our food. Imagine creating an environment where you have a great place to sit to eat, where it is easy to share your food with friends;  where you can share your heart, listen to music and be surrounded by tasteful sensual images.

That’s nourishment.

Enjoy your food.
